HAG and University of Portsmouth Collaborate in BBC Stargazing Live Event
Hampshire Astronomical Group and the the University of Portsmouth’s Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation are collaborating to provide displays and observing with the forthcoming BBC Stargazing Live event.
Both the Institute and the Group will be jointly providing display material and observing opportunities from Portsmouth’s Iconic Spinnaker Tower at the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour.
The event will involve ticketed access (free) to the decks at the top of the tower and open observing from the base of the tower. The ticketing is required for safety reasons to control numbers accessing the top of the tower.
At the top of the tower it is hoped to provide video link to telescopes and display material. At the base of the tower by the café area, there will be a number of telescopes looking at the night sky
EThere is likely to be a pre-recorded piece filmed at the observatory prior to the BBC Stargazing live event. Naturally, until the event it will be difficult to say what will be broadcast during the event and what will not.
