We have been following the progress of the Emmaus Analemmatic Sundial which has been built by Emmaus and the Foredown Tower Astronomers in the grounds of the Emmaus Community.

George Hurrion has just sent us the following update:

In June Dr. Robert Smith (Sussex University) officially opened the astronomical part of the in order that the public could watch the ceramic decorations being laid down.

This is a picture of the completed dial with its designer, Lee Radford. Foredown Tower Astronomers have added a touch of astronomy within the ceramics. Hidden is the planet Saturn (with Titan), Polaris, the Constellations of Orion and Ursa Major. Not hidden is a depiction of a Comet (no name, it might be ISON if it puts on a good show, failing that there is always Halley).
